If people ask me, I definitely self-identify as Jewish. But if you know me, you know that I'm not terribly observant. I remember the Sabbath, but certainly don't keep it holy. I light candles on Chanukah. I even go so far as fasting on Yom Kippur and pretty much cutting carbs out of my diet for a week every spring. But that's the extent to which I keep kosher. I don't hesitate to combine meat and dairy on my matzoh sandwich. I shellfish. I've broken the fast on at least one occasion with a barbecue bacon cheeseburger.

Spring is when we get busy here in the Ist-A-Verse. Very busy. But, after staying bundled-up indoors all winter, it's nice for us to be out, about, and collecting things to write about for you. Here's a glimpse at what's been keeping your favorite citybloggers busily away from home and out of bed.

We here at Phillyist HQ (secreted, naturally, deep in the bowels of the city, possibly beneath the swaying ramps of Lincoln Financial, or perhaps below the old Water Works - but definitely somwhere close to free Wi Fi and an ample supply of cheese steaks and scrapple) often pose questions of extreme unimportance to one another - such as "Who has the best grilled cheese in the city?", "Why isn't it five o'clock yet?" and "Exactly how many more posts do I have to compose before you'll let me see my family again?" We have realized, in the course of these ponderings, that we don't know all that much - but it occurs to us that you, our both gentle and acerbic readers, probably know quite a bit.

The Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe kick off this Friday, and we're beginning our coverage of the events in what might seem to be the strangest way possible: with food.
