"Federal highway officials have declined to approve the state's application to make I-80 a toll road," which will obviously make it harder for the state to collect the money from said tolls with which it planned to fund statewide highway and bridge repairs. The New Jersey state legislature gave final approval to a bill today that would abolish the state's death penalty; now all that's needed is for Governor Corzine to sign it, which he's......

As Phillyist Sarah pointed out yesterday in a comment on Philly in the News, Mark O'Donnell was arrested yesterday in the murder of Ebony Nicole Dorsey, the daughter of his girlfriend. He's been charged this morning with beating, strangling and sexually assaulting the 14-year-old. Dorsey's mother says the attack came after O'Donnell had been smoking crack all night, but O'Donnell says that's not true and that he caught the girl molesting his daughter. About 100......

14,029 people participated in yesterday's Philadelphia Distance Run. The Inquirer article about the event focuses not on the winner, but on the amateurs and the regular folks involved. The still theoretical Philadelphia Major League Soccer franchise already has a fan club: the Sons of Ben, or SoBs. As part of a piece of 2002 legislation, the state of New Jersey took over many of the powers of Camden's local government and school board. Yesterday,......

Things have become more violent in Philly, and could get even worse, possibly due in part to the warmer weather. We're still not sure this necessitates such a ridiculous, sensationalistic headline as COPS FEAR MURDER FEVER. But that's the Daily News for you... It's Rendell and the environment! He's championing the environment by sending a strongly worded letter to the EPA, criticizing their choice to allow two Montgomery County manufacturing firms exemptions to reducing their......

A 13-year-old girl from Pennsylvania won the US Texting Championship in New York on Saturday. We're so proud. (Via Editor Jill) All kinds of ugly little details are still coming out about NJ Governor Corzine's car crash a couple weeks ago. Now it sounds like the trooper driving the car may have been distracted by an email he received on his mobile phone confronting him about a two-year affair he'd been having with another police......

An anonymous, private donor has a challenge for the Philadelphia Free Library: if they can match every dollar with a dollar raised from another source, they'll get $15 million toward refurbishment and expansion of the Central Library on Logan Circle. Governor Corzine's car was doing 91 in a 65 MPH zone on the night of his recent accident, and although it slowed to 30 before the crash, the trooper driving now admits that his......
