We love food. Not just because it's a necessary substance for sustaining life. Perhaps, we should say we're in love (NSFW).

Pitchfork describes David Torn as a shapeshifter. All About Jazz says his new CD, Prezens, is not for the faint-at-heart. The Daily News reports that Torn describes his band as "what would happen if a non-two-chord rock jam band with at least three virtuosic players in it decided to marry itself to Future Sound of London." According to Ars Nova Workshop, "Influenced by Tony Williams' Lifetime, the original Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the electric Miles Davis bands, the textures of Prezens shift from unsettled ambiance to unsettling violence, with hovering calm at key intervals. The mood swings hint at Torn's self-described musical 'schizophrenia.'"

Justin Solonynka has been performing his virtuosic piano blend of "Jazzical Fusion Pop 'n' Roll" for audiences throughout the greater Philadelphia area for the last ten years. He'll be performing at the World Cafe Live, Friday, April 13, 2007, at 7:30PM. Now this isn't just any performance, this is specifically for The Key of Hope benefit.

We told you we'd keep an eye on The Shakespeare Cafe at the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, and so we have. The Cafe will run on Mondays, April 9th through May 14th, and offers three Bard-centered diversions. April 9 and 16 will feature Arpeggio Jazz Quartet providing an improvised jazz backdrop to Festival actors reciting some of Shakes' (Phillyist likes to call him "Shakes") best love poetry. April 23 and 30 is "Comedy-Sportz does the Bard," where the local improv troupe will use its format of short improvisational games to poke some fun at the ol' guy. And on May 7 and 14 there will be... (wait for it....) Sword-fighting! With swords! Well, there'll also be some recreations of Shakespearean fights that don't include swords, and that's cool, but we do have a liking for a period actor whacking someone with a sword. It's just a thing we have.

The website says it is SOLD OUT, but World Cafe Live has in the past, released more tickets the night of the show, so please check back.

We love Megan over at Canary Promotions. That's because she tells us about all the cool stuff happening around Philly and sometimes gets us in to them for free. She's also just an all-around cool person, so far as Phillyist can tell.

Phillyist suggests you take Wednesday off (or at least leave work/school early) and head over to the Institute of Contemporary Art in West Philly - preferably via bike, jet-pack, or Aston Martin - because the ICA is screening a James Bond Movie Marathon from noon to midnight. They claim this has something to do with their current exhibition - Rodney Graham: A Little Thought. But figuring out the connection between Bond and Graham is a little tricky. Graham is a Canadian artist who's best known for his upside-down pictures of trees (see above), as well as his odd films, like the one in which he had himself recorded biking through a German park on acid. James Bond is, well, James Bond - invincible super-spy and irresistible sex symbol. So...they're both in movies. And they're both kind of...trippy?

Project H.O.M.E., an organization dedicated to ending Philadelphia's cycle of poverty and homelessness, will be holding their inaugural Young Friends Event tonight in Great Hall at the University of the Arts from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
