Return to Sender: Lap-Land

To the random guy for whom a friend and I accidentally purchased a lap dance at Delilah's:

Battlestar Galactica is easily the best drama on TV!

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment.

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment. Toren Atkinson (of the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, our favorite Canadian band that bases all its songs on the work of H.P. Lovecraft) has had a number of entertaining posts lately on his blog. Here's a list he put together of all the great stuff that's going to be on TCM this month. And here's a commercial he did a...

Heck, this Phillyist is a PC user, and even we're excited to learn that Apple co-founder Steve "Woz" Wozniak will be speaking at the Central Branch of the Free Library (1901 Vine Street) this Saturday at 2PM.

God, we're so sick of
that we want to kill anyone and everyone that
makes a "something on a something" joke. But then we realized that
there was no way we could ever win this fight, and, hell, if you can't
beat them, we might as well join them. And with that, you have the
theme of this weeks' Gothamist network post.

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

CBS 3 reports that the City of Brotherly Love is conducting a review of our current disaster readiness plans, which it then intends to have completed by the end of June, "just in time for the 4th of July holiday." (Phillyist thinks this is great, although we're not clear why Independence Day is relevant here, since any meaningful review completed on June 31st is unlikely to be fully realized by July 4th.)

For those of who prefer "educational and cultural" to "shameless and sensational", Philadelphia Stories airs this week on Tuesday and Saturday [10 pm, WYBE]. Tuesday's show includes: Ballycastle, which follows Manayunk-based painter Stuart Shils; Mother Divine, a short film by Philly independent filmmaker Jeff P. Elstone II; and Divine Lorraine Hotel, which was produced by Christina Ortiz, age 14, and highlights Philly's formerly magnificent -- and now crumbling -- landmark. Saturday's film is Under New Management: Student Voices & School Reform in Philadelphia. According to WYBE, "This documentary examines the first year of privatization of the Philadelphia Public School System by focusing primarily on those who are affected the most by this reform: the students and their families."

We here at Phillyist learned that some TV execs were in our fair city this past weekend working on a top secret project. We weren't able to garner any further information --despite our wit and charm-- but our guess is it will involve thirty seconds of the Liberty Bell and the rest will be on an L.A. soundstage. And, speaking of soundstages, the only hit network show that takes place in (and has actually filmed some scenes in) Philly, Cold Case, is a repeat this Saturday at 9 on CBS.

If you're not busy watching the Phillies play the Mets tomorrow night at 7, there's plenty of other Philly-related activity on TV. Although Philadelphia native Krystal was ousted from the guilty pleasure reality show Beauty and the Geek (WB, 9 p.m.), current Philly medical resident Chuck remains— and he just may end up duking it out with übergeek Richard. Or, for your old school viewing pleasure, WFMZ has a full hour every weeknight of perpetual Temple graduation speaker Bill Cosby's old sitcom, The Cosby Show (WFMZ, 8 p.m). Unfortunately, the "Cousin Pam" years are currently in rotation, so you might want to skip this all together and tune into the Discovery Channel's "America's Volcanoes: Sitting on a Powder Keg" (DSC, 8 p.m.), which will make you stop fantasizing about catching a breeze on a California beach and kiss the dirty -- but rock-solid -- Philadelphia sidewalks.
