The big story this morning is about a young couple - him a Penn grad, her a Drexel student - who allegedly burglarized neighbors' apartments, stole identities, made fake driver's licenses, and opened phony credit card accounts, all in the name of living the high life. The two were arrested Friday, but are free on bail. The Daily News has a more detailed look at some of their scams in an article with a typically...

Stereotype dictates that "the gays" are good at all things artistic or cultural. Tomorrow night's Beyond Beyond! at the Trocadero won't do anything to distill that notion.
, only with more sexy, shirtless, dancing gays (okay, and a few straights too—maybe).

Somehow, GMail said that Elite -ist had almost 2000 unread messages. It's not unlikely, really. Today, we selected them ALL and marked them as read. And goddamn does it feel good.
Elite -ist has been swamped at our day job lately. And you know how it goes: you get busy, you get stressed, you don't get to spend time with your friends and family. So we haven't had a chance to check out things out across the -ist-a-verse in a couple of days. But we're back now—no promises about tomorrow. Work is hard.
San Francisco is proud host of a new reality show called "How to Get the Guy" that's unfortunately not a descendant of Will and Grace, Queer Eye, The L Word, American Idol etc. Also a biodefence lab is coming to the East Bay and SFist teaches wine pairing.
Usually when we hear about a noted evangelical Christian author speaking about gays and the Church, we expect it to be something pretty exclusionary and hateful. But Professor Jack Rogers, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church USA, is giving a lecture tonight (with a question and answer period afterwards) on the subject of gay rights, and it sounds like it might actually be pretty reasonable, open-minded, and, well...Christian. His latest book is called Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality: Explode the Myths, Heal the Church, and in it he talks about the personal change of heart he had on this issue. Also, according to the press release, "He examines how the church misused the Bible to justify slavery and the denial of rights to women, and he links these efforts to efforts today to use biblical texts to deny equal rights to gays and lesbians." Wow! Should be an interesting talk. And it's free!

Justice Sunday strives to convince us all that judicial activists - such as the Bush-appointed conservative Republican judge who recently ruled against Intelligent Design in Dover, PA - are ruining this country and have declared a de facto war on Christians. Justice Sunday III: Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land follows Justice Sunday II: God Save the United States and this Honorable Court, Justice Sunday I: Stop the Filibuster Against People of Faith, and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. OK, maybe not that last one.
Local raving lunatic Michael Marcavage of Repent America (headquartered in Lansdowne, Delaware County) is once again bringing honor and prestige to our area by blaming the Southern gay community and those in New Orleans who put up with that kind of "wickedness" for the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. Apparently, being one of the few extremist religious nutjobs in the Philadelphia region means out-crazying the big boys.
While the Phillies were busy losing game two of a day-night doubleheader to the Washington Nationals, Michael Marcavage, the face of Repent America, was busy pissing off fans in the 300 level of Citizens Bank Park. Marcavage was on-hand to protest Gay Day, the third annual night for gays to celebrate in groups at a Phillies game. The game has always been a center of controversy, including when the homophobic Todd Jones made his debut as a Phillie the day after making homophobic remarks in the Phils' locker room.
