Tonight, US Funk Team will rock out at the World Cafe, supported by The Birds and The Bees. Technically, one would expect US Funk Team to ...er...funk out? (What's the transitive verb form of "to funk" anyway?), but we've seen them before, and we can assure you that "rocking" is what they do.

Phillyist must admit we had concerns last night when US Funk Team started their set in the First Unitarian Church Sanctuary. The wailing guitars, that driving beat; why, it was the rock-n-roll music! And all around us, the people - they were dancing...and in a church basement! Propriety took hold of us for one terrifying moment, and we wondered what Reverend Shaw Moore would think of such shennanigans. And then we threw propriety out the window and made with the dancing ourselves, because both US Funk Team and their on-stage successors, Teeth, put on some solid guitar-driven rock that made the desire to dance difficult to deny.
Former solo-project- turned- "psych-rock quartet" Why? will be playing tonight The First Unitarian Church (2125 Chestnut Street). Fronted by Yoni Wolf (also of cLOUDDEAD and Reaching Quiet), Why? is described as "folk-pop," "indie-hop" and "sometimes mustachioed." (And, as we all know, it's the facial hair that really makes-or-breaks a band.)
