Teachers and employees in the Quakertown Community School District agreed to $700,000 in contract concessions in order to protect the community's schools, sports programs and to keep a school open. The school district was under pressure from a budget pinch due to the economic condidtions.
Senator Vince Fumo testified yesterday that he increased his computer security and deleted e-mails after he found out that the FBI was investigating him. Fumo also testifed that he believes he was targeted by the Bush Administration because, "[he] was the most prominent Democrat in Pennsylvania."
John McCain, Barack Obama, and Sarah Palin will all be campaigning in Pennsylvania today. It's all part of a last push for votes. Meanwhile, the Inquirer has coverage of local races.
If the Delaware River Port Authority board approves hikes proposed yesterday, then on September 14th bridge tolls for cars will rise to $4 and PATCO train fares will go up 10 percent. In 2010 bridge tolls would then go to $5 and PATCO fares would rise another 10 percent. Increases tied to inflation would be imposed every two years beginning in January 2013.
