Today is Repeal Day, the day we get to celebrate our Constitutional right to drink. That's right: the 21st Amendment, ratified exactly 75 years ago today, repealed the 18th (Prohibition) Amendment and gave us our booze back. To celebrate, several local establishments will be having drink specials ranging from one buck drafts at Memphis Taproom to price-adjusted-for-1933 ten cent beer at The Institute—for exactly 19 minutes and 33 seconds, starting at 7:33PM (that's 19:33 in military time). Click through to Foobooz for more details.

We'd like to thank Chris Illuminati at phillyBurbs.com for calling us one of Philadelphia's ten best websites, where we're joined by such local luminaries as Philadelphia Will Do, Foobooz, Geekadelphia, and Overheard in Philly. Chris has promised us a month's supply of home-churned butter as a prize. We need it soon, Chris: we just invited Paula Deen for dinner!

It's almost over, but we know how stressful watching those election returns can be. Best to go out, grab a beer, and hunker down with some friends to see if your candidate is in, or out. Foobooz has a run down of some local watering holes where you can camp out for the evening, many with food and drink specials. You know, in case the elected guy can't actually fix the economy with a swish of his wand, and you need to make that beer money last through Inauguration Day.

Many Phillyist staffers were sad to see Ludwig's replaced by Time. Sure, it was a little sketchy, but it was a real German beer hall, and we loved it.

We may be ugly and mean, but we love this little town of ours. FooBooz alerts us to the latest Travel and Leisure ploy to get hits exercise in democracy: America's Favorite Cities bracket. We add our voices to theirs: let's make Philly a contender!

What happened this week in the City of Bloggerly Love...

Have your Valentine’s Day activities planned out yet? No? Us neither (and we really have no excuse). Luckily foobooz is looking out for you, or at least your stomach. They have an extensive list of eat-out options and specials, including many singles events, to get you through the (perhaps dreaded) day. Our favorite is the Puppy Love Valentine’s Party hosted by Devil’s Alley tomorrow night at the Painted Bride; $35 buys tickets for one person and one puppy, with proceeds going to PAWS. We’re also considering the My Bloody Valentine masquerade ball at Jose Pistola’s the night of, which has the benefit of costing $5. After all, money can’t buy you love. We’re guessing that you’ll have to do some major haggling to get reservations at some of the swanker places at this late date—but love don’t come easy (somebody stop us please).
