  • Police investigators have four people in custody surrounding the shootings at the Piazza at Schmidts. They are searching for more suspects and as many as 10 could be charged in connection with the murders.

  • In January, former President Bill Clinton will replace former President George H.W. Bush as chairman of the National Constitution Center. Bush suggested Clinton as his replacement and helped recruit him. The center's 43-member board meets twice annually to set policy for the center, so maybe we'll see old Slick Willy around town more often.
  • A 1-year-old child was slashed in the neck yesterday afternoon at a North Philadelphia home. The suspect is believed to be the child's father, but police are withholding the identity of both victim and suspect at this time. The child was listed in stable condition and undergoing surgery last night.
  • Leonard Luchko, a computer technician and former aide of Senator Vincent Fumo, is accused of illegally destroying years' worth of state Senate computer records, apparently in an attempt to hide the data from the FBI during its investigation into Fumo. Luchko will plead guilty on Monday, marking the first plea in the corruption case against Fumo. The terms of the plea agreement have not yet been specified. In other corruption case news, "City Councilman Jack Kelly's top aide, his campaign treasurer, and his two top political contributors pleaded not guilty to federal fraud and conspiracy charges yesterday and were released on $10,000 bail."

  • Philadelphia photographer, founder of phillyskyline.com, and friend of Phillyist Brad Maule has sued The Colbert Report, and the Philadelphia Daily News and Inquirer for using his photographs without permission. He is seeking $1.25 million in damages.
  • The Phillies lost for the sixth time in a row, making this their longest losing streak since 2006. C'mon team. We can beat that record!

  • A new veterans cemetery to be known as Washington Crossing National Cemetery is scheduled to start construction in Bucks County next year, with the first burials starting toward the end of the year. The plans for the new cemetery will be available for review tonight during a public briefing by the Department of Veterans Affairs at Washington Crossing Historic Park.

  • The Daily News continues to desperately dig up any more tidbits they can find about infamous criminal couple Jocelyn Kirsch and Edward Anderton. This time they've got a story about how Kirsch talked to Prince Charles at an invitation-only panel last year at the International House.

  • The Delaware River Port Authority plans on spending $25 million on inspections and paint jobs on its bridges between Philadelphia and South Jersey. Public meetings will probably begin in March to discuss the possibility of raising bridge tolls to pay for the work. Tolls could rise as much as $2; the alternative is to raise tolls a smaller amount each year based on inflation.
  • Two West Philadelphia High students were slashed during an argument on Monday, so a heavy police presence blanketed the area yesterday as students were dismissed for the day.
  • TV star Bam Margera of West Chester, along with business partner and bar owner Don Moore, plans "to open a theater, capped by an old-fashioned marquee, in an empty storefront in the business district. Construction is under way for a projected opening in the spring. The theater, so far unnamed, will book musical acts and stand-up comedians and will show films."

  • In a lengthy hearing yesterday, more sordid information came out about Andy Reid's sons Garrett and Britt before they were sentenced - Garrett to two to 23 months in jail, and Britt to eight to 23 months in jail and four years probation. The judge held Garrett and Britt responsible for their own actions, but also laid some guilt on the heads of their parents.

  • The FBI is looking for a filthy dude in connection with the robbery yesterday of the Trumark Financial Credit Union at 1811 John F. Kennedy Blvd. He's a black man in his 30s "who was wearing sunglasses, a dirty gray suit jacket and dirty white sneakers." He got away with some cash - and a dye pack, which was later found exploded at a train concourse at 17th and JFK.
  • The enormous amounts of traffic and congestion on the bridge across the Schuylkill linking Conshohocken with I-76 and the Blue Route is actually threatening the town's growth, besides slowing people down and annoying them.
  • The Philadelphia Inquirer has a disturbingly effective visual aide that brings together the homicide data from last year - data we are quickly on our way to surpassing in 2007.

  • Speaking of "fumo," no fumo in PA! Well, sort of. The state senate passed a statewide ban on smoking yesterday, which would theoretically replace Philly's own smoking ban if it were to get signed into law, even though it has so many exemptions it's actually a weaker ban than the one we already have. It's all a moot point anyway as Rendell has already said he'll veto it, due to the fact that it would allow smoking at certain child-care facilities. Meanwhile, a tougher smoking ban with far fewer exemptions will be considered by the House later this week.
  • Rachel Marie Brooks, a U Penn graduate from Broomall, became 2007's Miss Pennsylvania Saturday night, which means she'll represent our fair state in the Miss America competition later on this year. (Although, keep in mind, a Miss Pennsylvania has only won Miss America once, way back in 1954.)
