Here at Phillyist, we were really excited to have Farm Aid come to Camden. What a great idea! We are, after all, Jersey fresh. We were still excited to see the likes of Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews talk on Saturday morning about how important it is to support the family farmer, about how food corporations are monsters, about how the high calorie/high fat food we serve our kids is killing them, about how important it is to know where our food comes from.

Going to Farm Aid? A few things to remember:

If you’re looking for a nice way to spend your Friday that doesn’t involve work, but, to keep your conscience at bay, involves doing SOMETHING worthwhile, check out the Urban-Rural Connections bus tour, which is part of Farm Aid. Stops include Pheasant Hill Farm, Rodale Institute Farm and Somerton Tanks Farm. You’ll be riding with farmers from around the country who can talk about innovative and organic farm programs that are working to improve the food we eat sans chemicals and all that other nasty stuff. The Farm Aid concert might not be rocking Camden until Sept. 30, but events leading up to the big schebang start this Saturday morning with the Urban Farm and Garden Bike Tour. So hop on that mountain bike you bought with good intentions (to save gas? For exercise?) and petal over to the Weavers Way Co-Op (Washington Lane between Arleigh St. and Chew Ave. in Mount Airy) for a lesson in Philadelphia’s urban farms. The tour starts at 8:30a.m. and rides on to the Mill Creek Farm and Yards Brewery.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, we'll be posting events that are going on sale during the current week. This Tuesday post only collects the early announcements, so definitely check back on Thursday for the latest ticket news.

Torontoist immediately wins our heart by using the word "Jackass" in a headline. In fact, we love their use of it so much that we're going to use it as much as possible throughout this post. For example, it looks like there are Toronto-area jackasses besides those who misuse the sidewalk: look at the crap on sale on Toronto's craigslist. But it looks like Toronto doesn't contain the kind of jackasses who pee in public pools, as the issue never came up when they interviewed the creators of art installations in their public wading pools.

We just got back from seeing rock legend Neil Young! Wooo! Not at a concert, though, sadly. No, this morning Mr. Young was down at the Reading Terminal Market, not giving a concert, but announcing one: Farm Aid 2006, to be exact. Neil and his friends Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews will all be performing, along with plenty other bands yet to be announced, at the "Camden shed," as Neil described it (that shed being the Tweeter Center) on September 30th.
