It was a strange morning for jogger Charles S., who'd taken to the crisp air at 5:00 am on July 15th 1967. As he inhaled the fresh air into his lungs, two men suddenly joined him, the trio happily bounding along the pathway.

Even if it wasn’t one of your New Year’s resolutions, moving around is never a bad idea. One of the big problems we have is gym memberships can be expensive, and frankly we have such issues with commitment that getting locked into anything for a year is a frightening prospect. So we thought we’d look around for some cheap, noncommittal ways to get active; free is best, but the occasional class shouldn’t break the bank.

The festival begins this weekend with a black-tie Gala at the Union League on Saturday, then continues at venues around the city with events including: taiko drumming, sake tasting, story hours, tea ceremonies and a visit from the Cherry Blossom Queen herself. Cherry Blossom fans can also visit the trees in Fairmont Park, or help to sponsor The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia's Cherry Tree Planting Project.
