The folks over at the bi-partisan Committee of Seventy want to make sure that we all get to the polls on May 19th to vote in the primary election. We think it's a noble goal, so we just wanted to join them in reminding you that the deadline for applying for an absentee or alternative ballot is May 12th at 5:00pm. You can visit VotesPA for more information on the election and voting. You can sign up for deadline alerts and even find your local polling place. Like we said during the 2008 Presidential election: if you don't vote, you can't complain. So vote.

Obama loves the Phillies

Now that the election buzz has died down just a tad and the baseball season is over, it’s time to reflect a bit on the month that was. Here’s just a brief look at all the cool happenings since October 5th:

I have been very vocal of my support for Senator President-Elect Obama on the Facebook, which has drawn both support and ire from fellow Facebookians. (No one can ire more than people with free time on their hands as they troll social networks while at work. I know because I am one of them.)

Looks like Broad Street had a Barack attack last night.

It's 11:15PM, and fifteen minutes ago, all of the major news agencies called the election for Barack Obama. The presumptive president-elect will be the United States' first minority leader—and, whether he was your candidate or not, you can't deny the historic significance of that. Thanks, Pennsylvania, for voting, no matter who you voted for.

Don't forget to stay tuned to our Twitter page: http://twitter.com/phillyist. We're updating very frequently over there, while we gaze at returns and other coverage with our eyelids taped to our forehead. Also, Twitter has a live-streaming page dedicated solely to tweets about the Presidential race, and you can check it out here. Be warned, though, the constant motion can be nauseating. Oh, and last but not least, you can go to the City Commissioners' frequently updated phillyelectionresults.com for homegrown results.

We'd planned on updating you throughout the night about this, seeing as McCain's people said this morning that the whole election could come down to the great state of Pennsylvania, but half an hour ago, with 0% of polls reporting, MSNBC called the state for Obama. We'll keep you posted should anything change, but we'd like to believe the networks learned their lessons in 2000 and that nobody will be calling things without being certain of the outcome.

UPDATE BELOW!

Proofreading Philly tries to capture typos, wordos, and all other kinds of grammatical mistakes that we see around the city. But we need your help! Email photos to us from your computer or your phone, and show the city that you care about good grammar.

You know how we're always popping in right about here to tell you what you can't miss? Well, to miss this would be downright irresponsible. More importantly, it would rob you of every American's fundamental right to demand change, to join together in one of two (or any one of several decidedly quieter, although no less vital, third party) voices and express yourself in the most important venue there is: the voting booth.

Whoever your candidate of choice, make sure you hit your neighborhood precinct before the polls close this evening. Otherwise, we may send vintage Madonna and her off-key back-up dancers after you. (And when they catch you, maybe they'll make you dress like the Lady Miss Kier in this video, just to make sure you've learned your lesson.)

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal and our fellow tweeters, Starbucks is giving coffee away to votersall over the country! If you get a sticker confirming that you voted, bring it. But it appears that the honor system will be in effect for those of us (like Phillyist!) who were not given a sticker.

A week's worth of local Craigslist hijinks.

Once upon a time, Oliver Stone enjoyed a reputation as the most paranoid man in Hollywood, seeing conspiracy theories under every rock and questioning the official explanations. So when Stone decided, earlier this year, to tackle the subject of our current president, who is responsible for any number of actual conspiracies to take away civil liberties and then cover up his own responsibility for same, I got a little giddy. This is, after all, the president that’s held people for years without any sort of review, with secret evidence and occasionally secret legal arguments, on a prison that the American government runs but claimed not to control. I didn’t want to hear my opinions parroted back to me, but I figured that the dramatic expansion of torture and electronic surveillance might have sparked his interest.

This is not a column about politics.

Please don't forget that tomorrow is the voter registration deadline for your state. Voter information can be found here, and your voter registration form may be downloaded here. Whomever you're voting for, we hope you plan to cast a ballot in November.

But clearly not Philadelphia's.

If you made it to Saturday's rally, we'd love to hear about your experience. Leave us a note in the comments and let us know what you thought!

No matter where you sit on the political divide, you've gotta give the video editor props. And hey, it starts right here in Philadelphia.

We're sure you'll be missing these, now that the Primary is over.

Get out and vote today. You wouldn't want to make Puff Daddy P. Diddy Diddy Sean Combs angry, now would you?

Usually I can muster a good chuckle at the tendency of the mainstream media to trumpet shock over substance in its campaign coverage, but last night's debate only made me angry. Here's why: watching them with me was a bona-fide undecided voter, the likes of which I haven't seen in a long time.

Here it is, in its entirety. (The remaining clips are after the jump.)

*Yes, we know it's Tuesday. Blame the Film Festival.
