Philadelphia, let's start acting like real basketball fans.

This Phillyist would like to interrupt this wonderful Wednesday to remind you that Philadelphia’s NBA representative, the 76ers, will be starting their season tonight at 7 p.m. with a road game against the Toronto Raptors. The team is not expected to do too much this year. In fact, most people are picking them to finish last in their division, and Sports Illustrated even picked them to pull up the rear in the entire Eastern Conference. Then again, think about it for a second, and how could you NOT pick them for last in their division? Take the leap for a look at what the teams in the Atlantic Division were up to this off-season.

Soon after the Flyers signed Briere, they were able to pull the trigger on another deal sitting on the table. Defenseman Joni Pitkanen and winger Geoff Sanderson were traded to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Jason Smith and center Joffrey Lupul. Pitkanen regressed last year, and didn't seem as if he would be able to find the focus needed to be a premiere player in Philadelphia. In return, the Flyers received Smith, a hard-hitting veteran blue-liner.

Once upon a time, Phillyist followed the North Star to find Champions, Robbers, and The King. Ok - so it's not really fairy tale (with band names like that though, we couldn't resist), but if you stayed home last night brushing your Rapunzel-like hair instead of among the audience at at the North Star for the Robbers on High Street, you should be sorry, because you missed one heck of a show.

The Philadelphia Flyers return to the ice tonight, playing a nationally broadcast game to kick off the NHL's new season.
