  • A five-alarm fire blazed for more than three hours yesterday evening in a warehouse in the 1300 block of North Front Street in Kensington. Service on the portion of the Market-Frankford El that runs nearby was halted during the fire. Firefighters were finally able to get it under control around 7:30PM. No one was injured.
  • The big wildfire that raged through New Jersey's Pinelands last week was supposedly sparked by a military training exercise at the Warren Grove bombing range, so yesterday, Governor Corzine called for the closure of said range. However, the fire was fed and fueled by the underbrush and debris that had been accumulating in the forest for years, a problem that won't be so easily solved.
  • Our fair neighboring state of NJ is getting close to banning sex offenders from using the internet. Woah. We're not sure how to feel about that.
  • US Department of Justice lawyers had requested that federal observers be stationed in polling places in Philly's Latino neighborhoods on Tuesday, but a three-judge panel has rejected the idea. The City Solicitor had argued that their presence might be intimidating and decrease participation; he also says plenty of translation services will be available. Hmm... Well, we'll see.
  • In more disturbing gun-related deaths, two Philly police officers have killed themselves in three days.
  • The Eagles have cut Pinkston and Detmer! We're a little surprised, but not really that much. Maybe our sports department (read: Jonathan) will have more to say on this later...
