Tomorrow night, One Republic is playing The Trocadero. We've never heard of them, and outside of the song that automatically pops up on their MySpace page, we have no idea what their music sounds like.

A few weeks ago, Phillyist recommended checking out First Person Story Slams. If you missed that opportunity, dust off your best tales of the city and make your way to L’Etage tonight. Tonight’s topic is “Home and Away”.
If you're the person who's always got a good tale to tell to your circle of friends, why not stop bending their ears and head down to First Person StorySlams? Sponsored by First Person Arts, it's your opportunity to tell your favorite stories in front of an audience, and maybe even win a chance to compete at November's Grand Slam and secure the title of Philadelphia's Best Storyteller. Tonight, Theatre of the Living Arts presents Butch Walker and the Let's Go Out Tonites with The Honorary Title and Rocket starting at 9PM. We're very excited for The Honorary Title's performance because they're debuting some new tracks off of their upcoming CD, Scream and Light up the Sky, which is due out in June. Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to interview Jarrod Gorbel, the lead singer of The Honorary Title. He talked...

We like the idea of a good time for a good cause, so we're pretty excited about the Third Annual Philly Bands Together that's taking over the entire World Cafe Live, upstairs and down, tonight at 7:30PM (doors open at 6). A TON of artists - including Grey Eye Glances, Hoots and Hellmouth, Lili Anel, and Red Heart the Ticker - will be there playing music (you can find a detailed schedule and band list here), and the price of your ticket will go to support WXPN Musicians On Call, a non-profit that brings live music, CDs, and CD players to patients in area hospitals. If you've got any "gently used" CDs, bring them on down to the event and you can donate them. Of course, you could also just contribute directly to the cause here. But music and giving are both good for body and soul, so why not enjoy both together?

The Pig Iron Theatre Company is giving the proverbial sheepskin to 18 graduates of their 3-week clown training course this Saturday night. What does this mean for you? FREE CLOWN SHOW. Need we say more?
You could spend your weekend preparing snacks for and making bets on Sunday's Oscar hoopla or you could spend it digging up sparkly, gold-sequined hats, black fishnets and the reddest red lipstick on the market; because come Monday night, after Jon Stewart's opening monologue is already passé water-cooler fodder, the utterly fabulous (yet never nominated by the Academy) film classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, will be showing at the World Cafe.
Phillyist has to admit, we had to gag our inner fan girl and stick her in the closet in order to compose this post. She's convinced if we put the word out that author Neil Gaiman (squueeeeee!) will be speaking at Temple University's Mitten Hall (1913 North Broad Street) at 8PM on Thursday as part of their Poet and Writers Series, that there would be a sort of fantasy lovers stampede that would prevent her from getting to see him speak. I assured her that there's likely enough Gaiman goodness to go around. For the love our comics, please don't prove us wrong.
Dear Philadelphia:
Phillyist knows there are all kinds of controversy brewing about the movie version of will be speaking about the film at the Central Library (1901 Vine Street) at 7PM on Thursday night. FREE!
Well, we were going to tell you about Dracula's Ball, the regular Goth event that happens to occur on Hallowe'en every year (what a coincidence!), but then we had a bright idea: Why do all the work when we can have someone else tell you all about it? So we traded some emails with promoter Patrick Rodgers of Dancing Ferret, and he graciously agreed to answer some spoooooky questions.
This weekend, artists in the City of Brotherly Love will begin a series of benefit events for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Fringe Festival Cabaret will host the first event, a FREE show featuring Fringe favorites the Brothers Suggarillo with Dito van Reigersberg, Dirty Diamond, Rich Wexler, BINGO, Lidia Kaminska, and more.
If you want to ensure your membership in the intelligentsia, you can spend the occasional Friday night ambling in and out of the art galleries that line Old City's cobblestone streets. On the first Friday of every month, Old City galleries keep their doors open from 5PM to 9PM, to the art afficiandos and the alike. Admission to the galleries is free - so the only risk to your pocket book is if your passion for fine art overwhelms you and you make a purchase. But then, who can put a price on art appreciation? (Hmm, actually, we suppose gallery owners can.) September's First Friday event will take place this Friday, September 2nd in Old City.
