  • A Philadelphia police officer was responding to a call to assist another officer around 1AM this morning when his police car collided with another car at a downtown intersection. The officer is listed in critical condition, but his prognosis is good.
  • The Daily News describes a climate of fear and anger in Frankford, with residents on the lookout for a serial rapist. "Anticrime activists passed out flyers in the neighborhood yesterday while police—in a massive manhunt—took the unusual move of releasing the name and picture of a man wanted for questioning."   • Some lucky schmuck bought the winning Powerball ticket last week at the Turkey Hill Minit Mart in Willow Street, PA, just south of Lancaster. This Phillyist can sadly report that it wasn't him. But whoever it was will be revealed at 10 this morning.
  • Perhaps not surprisingly, Mayor Nutter's recent press conference in which he angrily criticized DHS left some workers upset. He spent yesterday trying to placate them in a series of closed-door meetings.
  • A man wanted for the murder of a four-year-old boy was arrested early this morning in Philadelphia.
  • By now, we're sure you've heard the tragic story of Danieal Kelly, the 14-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who was found dead in a West Philadelphia rowhome almost exactly two years ago. This week, nine people were indicted by a state grand jury in Kelly's death, including her parents and a number of social workers who were assigned to see to it that she was cared for.
