The Inquirer has a very interesting article about the "gentrification frontier" in West Philly, which is apparently smack dab at 50th and Baltimore.
Only a few miles away and only a few hours after the incident described above, an 18-month-old boy was struck in the elbow and the foot by stray bullets during an altercation at Tustin Playground at 60th Street and Lancaster Avenue. The toddler is in stable condition. The intended target of the shooting was also struck and is in critical condition. Meanwhile, two other babies were found dead in the Philadelphia area yesterday - one at a day care center in Wilmington, and the other in a trash bin in Lancaster.
Some big traffic messes this morning: I-95 North in Delaware County is backed up due to an accident, which also created a gaper delay on the southbound side, and slowed things up on the southbound Blue Route. To make things worse, as of 8:15AM the Ben Franklin Bridge is backed up westbound due to some malfunctioning traffic signals. Motorists are advised to take the Walt Whitman instead.
Praxis released their preliminary recommendations on how to redevelop the face of the Delaware River at a community meeting yesterday. They suggest a public park every 200 feet, biking and jogging trails, restaurants, rowhomes, and shopping. (Via Jill)
