The Philadelphia Student Union is holding a rally tomorrow at 440 N. Broad at 4PM. "The specific aim is to proactively impact the way the school district deals with troubled schools, known as Corrective Action II Schools. More broadly however, PSU is pushing for educational equity across the state and school district."
The Inquirer has collected reactions to Alberto Gonzales' resignation from PA's Senator Specter, as well as from local attorneys and agents.
Some are trying to pass laws to ban casinos in Philly, but there could already be a law on the books that would prohibit the building of at least one of the casinos: the planned SugarHouse Casino at Frankford and Delaware Avenue. It's a zoning law originally designed to restrict nightclubs.
Meanwhile, times are tough and sales are down for cart and kiosk merchants in area malls.

add to facebookThe Inquirer this morning ran an interesting piece about the latest controversy swirling around the proposed SugarHouse casino site on the Delaware River, on the border of Northern Liberties and Fishtown. It seems that the foundations of Batchelor's Hall, a building of some historical import (see Chapter 69 here), have been excavated beneath the casino's billboard on Delaware Avenue near Frankford. Needless to say, historians and SugarHouse are at-odds about what this discovery means. More on this story as it develops.
