Philadelphia is one of the key stops on Galactic’s East Coast Run tour. The New Orleanian instrumental quintet--composed of Robert Mercurio on bass, Stanton Moore on drums, Jeff Raines on guitar, Rich Vogel on Hammond B3 organ and keyboards, and Ben Ellman on saxophone--will bring in its jazz/funk-infused music to the TLA on Thursday night. The band is one of the key acts from the recently announced New Orleans Jazz Fest line-up. So consider Thursday night a preview.

Here at Phillyist, we were really excited to have Farm Aid come to Camden. What a great idea! We are, after all, Jersey fresh. We were still excited to see the likes of Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews talk on Saturday morning about how important it is to support the family farmer, about how food corporations are monsters, about how the high calorie/high fat food we serve our kids is killing them, about how important it is to know where our food comes from.
We just got back from seeing rock legend Neil Young! Wooo! Not at a concert, though, sadly. No, this morning Mr. Young was down at the Reading Terminal Market, not giving a concert, but announcing one: Farm Aid 2006, to be exact. Neil and his friends Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews will all be performing, along with plenty other bands yet to be announced, at the "Camden shed," as Neil described it (that shed being the Tweeter Center) on September 30th.
Modern dance is not for everyone, but if you're up for something different we heartily recommend the always fantastic Parsons Dance Company. Parsons will appear on November 10, 11, and 12 at Zellerbach Theatre, 3680 Walnut Street.
AOL, a Live 8 partner, has announced a broadcast lineup for its online coverage of Live 8. Considering how chaotic Live 8 planning has been, this could be flipped and reversed and scrapped entirely by Saturday morning, but it gives us a first glimpse at how Saturday might go down. You know, aside from the predictions of large riots. And no, that's not a Kaiser Chiefs joke, but it works out as one in retrospect, doesn't it?
