Michael announced that there has already been improvement in DHS following the Danieal Kelly tragedy. Well that's reassuring—we can't imagine that DHS could have gotten much worse.
Meteorologists warn that Tropical Storm Hanna could hit the Philadelphia region with high winds and pounding rain tomorrow night and Saturday.
Speaking of the convention, we really hope Michael's staffers are having a good time and getting —staffer that he brought with him out of his campaign funds.
A Philadelphia police officer was responding to a call to assist another officer around 1AM this morning when his police car collided with another car at a downtown intersection. The officer is listed in critical condition, but his prognosis is good.
The Daily News describes a climate of fear and anger in Frankford, with residents on the lookout for a serial rapist. "Anticrime activists passed out flyers in the neighborhood yesterday while police—in a massive manhunt—took the unusual move of releasing the name and picture of a man wanted for questioning." Keep in mind Dorrell Shaw, 26, has not been charged, and is only wanted for questioning. Click through to take a look at the police sketch.

A 1-year-old child was slashed in the neck yesterday afternoon at a North Philadelphia home. The suspect is believed to be the child's father, but police are withholding the identity of both victim and suspect at this time. The child was listed in stable condition and undergoing surgery last night.
Yesterday, amid criticism that they were seeking to profit from their child's death, Andrea and Daniel Kelly were dropped from their lawsuit against the city. Their lawyers said the Kellys agreed to be removed as administrators of the estate and to have a trustee appointed instead. They also said if the parents are convicted of a crime, any money recovered in the lawsuit will go to Danieal Kelly's siblings.
Leonard P. Luchko, a top computer technician for State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo pleaded guilty yesterday and told a federal judge that he followed Fumo's orders to erase e-mails being sought by federal agents investigating the powerful Philadelphia Democrat. Apparently he failed to erase incriminating e-mails from his own devices, however.
And in connection with the above story, was Michael's passionate, off-color language inappropriate? (Obviously, we're going with a big fat NO on this one.)
Some lucky schmuck bought the winning Powerball ticket last week at the Turkey Hill Minit Mart in Willow Street, PA, just south of Lancaster. This Phillyist can sadly report that it wasn't him. But whoever it was will be revealed at 10 this morning.
A man wanted for the murder of a four-year-old boy was arrested early this morning in Philadelphia.

By now, we're sure you've heard the tragic story of Danieal Kelly, the 14-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who was found dead in a West Philadelphia rowhome almost exactly two years ago. This week, nine people were indicted by a state grand jury in Kelly's death, including her parents and a number of social workers who were assigned to see to it that she was cared for.
