I was eight years old when my dad woke me up in the middle of the night to watch Mitch Williams strike out Bill Pecota and send the Phillies to the 1993 World Series. The following week in school, I taught myself to draw the Phillies’ logo for the construction-paper pennants we hung in the windows. To this day, it’s the only thing I can still successfully draw aside from a rather pathetic looking Dachshund.

The Red Sox has permeated nearly every facet of Bostonist's lives. When they're not live-blogging the games, waxing poetic about the games, thanking Curt Schilling for his splendid work, or telling Dane Cook to watch his hair, they're watching certain presidential candidates hop on the Red Sox bandwagon (sorry, Gothamist). The Sox are so branded on the local brain that people are using the Series to spice up their sex lives. Speaking of spice, Bostonist is really sick of that taco promo. And, while they're proud of John Williams, Bostonist is still trying to figure out Williams' "Very Special Arrangement" of the "Star Spangled Banner."

It seems like, all across the network, folks were up to no good. Maybe it was all the green beer from last weekend...

Ugh. Milton Street is more of a fiasco than a real candidate, something of a sideshow in the political circus. He may even sideline Brady's chances! Oh the shame!

As fall settles in and another calendar page gets turned, thoughts turn from bbq's and vacations to holidays and the realization that '06 is coming to an end. With all that going on, with change in the air, we wonder what is it the -ists ponder?

The 700Level (by way of Philadelphia Will Do) informs us that this weekend, EverQuest II will allow users try and challenge an online, in game version of "Curt Schilling." Defeat Schilling, and Sony Online will donate $5 to the ALS association.

Believe it or not, Philadelphia isn't the only city with blogs. So, we decide to take a look around the world, examining their every blog and choosing the best posts. Coincidentally, they all came from within the Gothamist network. Can you imagine that? Craziness.

This was the kind of win that makes you think, "Hey, the Phils can do this." Granted, we still don't think they can do it - it being making the ever-elusive MLB playoffs - but we were hopeful, if only for a little while.

On July 26, 2000, Phillies pitcher Curt Schilling (now the most-expensive set-up man around while he rehabs his ankle injury) was traded to the fesity Arizona Diamondbacks after winning 102 games in a Phillies uniform, including one in the 1993 World Series. Schilling was upset in Philly, he wanted out and the rest is history. The Phillies may not see a pitcher that good for 25 years. He’s up there with Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts as the best to ever pitch in Philly. The Phillies received what at the time seemed like a steal. They got pitching prospect Nelson Figueroa, solid veteran Omar Daal, power-hitting first round draft pick Travis Lee, and another prospect, hard-throwing 22 year old Vicente Padilla, who was striking out a batter an inning with the D-Backs. He was praised for his competitiveness by manager Buck Showalter, who did not want to part with him. The only thing the Phillies have to show from that trade five years later, aside from the everlasting hysteria from “The Bowa Years,” is Vicente Padilla. Although he represented Philadelphia in the 2002 All-Star Game, he was fighting to stay in the big leagues as he pitched against the Pirates in Pittsburgh last night. While Schilling has won 2 World Series, the Phillies have lost with, as Chris Mustazza affectionately calls him, “Sure-to-lose” Padilla. We all love Vicente, though; we do want him to do well. We know he’s the same pitcher Showalter praised, taking losses out on himself. It has taken a great toll on his confidence to pitch as bad as he has been pitching. But Padilla helped the Phils last night to come within four and a half games of the NL wild card leading Atlanta Braves.

Curt Schilling has become the Larry Brown of Baseball. Moving from town to town, Curt often contradicts himself in order to look out for, well, himself. Curt made headlines again on Tuesday morning. As reported on Blinq, he called into WEEI, Boston's sports talk radio station, to criticize Philadelphia radio hosts who criticized former Phils manager and current Red Sox manager Terry Francona. "They are some of the biggest pieces of trash," Schilling said of the WIP hosts. "These guys were some of the worst people, and are some of the worst people I've ever met in my life. They have no business being in sports. They have a sports station that tries to be what 'EEI is, and they suck."
