  • The Convention Center expansion project was halted on Christmas Eve when the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia obtained an injunction ordering wrecking crews to stop work. The preservationists want to save the two small but historic Broad Street buildings that workers were set to dismantle. Today they'll travel to Harrisburg to ask a Commonwealth Court judge to convert the temporary demolition ban into a permanent one.
  • Commonwealth Court upheld Philly's much discussed limits on campaign contributions on Monday, but Chaka Fattah said he would appeal the ruling, which would bring the issue to the state Supreme Court.
  • Meanwhile, in other school news, there was another violent incident on Wednesday morning, this time at West Philadelphia High, in which a nonteaching assistant was sucker-punched in the hallway by a student. The student was at large Wednesday night, but the principal was removed at the end of the day; it was unclear whether him leaving was connected to the incident.
