The sustainability revolution is sweeping the nation, as consciousness shifts from a mentality of environmental degradation to one of preservation. According to the Inquirer, “Going Green” is quickly becoming the purview of local colleges, as administrators look for ways to contribute to the sustainability movement. Area schools such as Arcadia University, Muhlenberg College, and Philadelphia University have added courses or concentrations in sustainability. Villanova has gone one step further by naming is naming its coming semesters the Year of Sustainability, with an eye toward improving the academic study of sustainability across its curriculum. Drexel University has plans to implement a "bio wall, which is an interior wall of plants that promotes energy efficiency and better air quality.

  • Yesterday was Unity Day in Philadelphia, the 28th occurrence of this yearly event celebrating families and community pride, featuring dozens of free musical performances. Unfortunately, Unity Day also means lots of road closings: MLK Drive, Kelly Drive around the art museum, and the Ben Franklin Parkway from Eakins Oval to 20th were all closed until 9PM. Hope you found your way to where you needed to go anyway...
  • If conservatives are to be believed, Pennsylvania colleges and universities are a hotbed of liberal bias. Hundreds of students every year are ridiculed for their conservative beliefs, flunked for not being progressive, shunned for daring to vote Republican. The Pennsylvania State Senate formed an investigative committee to probe the insidious discrimination, and scheduled four hearings -- one was held at Temple University yesterday.

In an ideal world, your standard-issue college student will be exposed to a zillion and one different viewpoints and learn to think critically and go through the whole 'who am I?' thing.
