Foodsday Tuesday:  Cinco de Drunk-o

Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day. Hell, it's not even a holiday celebrated in all of Mexico. (Wikipedia actually has a decent explanation here.) But, here in America, we like to use the holiday as an excuse to get wasted anyway. (It's like St. Patrick's Day, but with tequila.)

Frugal Fun Alert: Tuesday

Just in case you forgot, today is Cinco de Mayo.

Yes, it's Cinco de Mayo. We've got one event related to the fiesta, but that doesn't mean you can't throw together your own party. Just get some tequila and the number you'll need to call out of work tomorrow morning.

Philebrity applauded the installation of solar panels at the Philadelphia Naval Yard while simultaneously making fun of Naval Yard denizen Urban Outfitters. Maybe next we'll get some windmills. We know of a few places to put them where there's plenty of hot air being blown about.

Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Fourth of July. It's the commemoration of a battle won against unusual odds -- the French outnumbered the Mexicans by 100% -- but the Mexicans ended up losing the war, so they usually kind of forget about the holiday. Not us Americans, though! Just like St. Patrick's Day, one country's history of oppression is our chance to get drunk and obnoxious and wear funny hats. Of course, at the time of this writing, none of our sister sites have addressed the Cinco at all...
