Has anyone else felt a little dirty watching the Olympics the last couple weeks? I mean, Michael Phelps's Phelpsian (as opposed to Phelpsian) performance was nothing short of stellar, Usain Bolt is the kind of cocky freak of nature athlete that you can't like but can't stop watching, and you literally can't beat Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Trainer. But there's been a big cloud over these Olympics—the kind that hasn't really been there since, oh, I don't know, the 1936 Berlin games. (Notwithstanding the Munich tragedy. That was a whole other kettle of fish.)
I have a rock-solid, two-week reason to watch NBC round the clock!

Shanghaiist's Managing Editor, Dan Washburn, snapped this photo at Thumb Plaza in Pudong. That, you may have guessed, is in China. When he directed us toward this picture via his personal website, he asked the same thing we're wondering about: "Can Philadelphia sue?"
Climate change has rapidly become part of our national discourse. As early as four or five years ago, the issue was treated by many as a paranoid conspiracy. Now, political figures from governors to presidential candidates to George W. Bush himself seem unable to avoid the fact that not only is our planet becoming warmer, but it is also losing the ability to produce key resources such as oil and clean water. Here’s a look at recent Earth-related news:

So just what is it that makes Thai food special? Most likely it is the combination in each dish of the four basic flavors -- sweet, sour, salty and spicy. Over the centuries, Thai cooking has borrowed freely from the culinary arts of China, India and Malaysia, blending these different influences to create something that is truly unique. While Thai food has a reputation for being spicy, in reality most dishes are not. The spiciness varies by region, and central Thai cuisine, the most commonly encountered variety, is probably the least spicy of all.
Warning: This whole review is basically a spoiler. Despite its infamy, there are apparently people out there who are still surprised by the "twist" at the end of M. Butterfly, currently being produced by the Philadelphia Theatre Company. These are the same people who are confused by Ru Paul. Please proceed with caution.

All across the Ist-A-Verse (or at least the American parts thereof), writers and editors are in the midst of enjoying their three-day weekend. But after the week we've all had, we feel like the break is not only needed, but deserved. Just look at everything we've been doing!
It's a week of season enders, that's for sure. Get in the last bit of the regular season while you can!

We'll be the first to admit that we're a little addicted to watching the Food Network. It's not that we have it on all the time. It's just that once it's on, hours and hours will go by before we can even think about turning the television off. (It's probably more like televised pot, than televised crack, in that regard.) Hell, we even kind of like Rachel Ray. (Sure, she can be annoyingly chipper, and...

With the sun out, the temperatures high, one can only think of one thing-- what's going on in the World of the -ist's?
About ten days ago, I was able to live out a fantasy of mine (not that kind, you perv): I had the perfect (read: boys), which was awesome enough. But we got to do it over some truly fantastic dim sum, which made the whole experience even better.
