The Inquirer takes a look at how fans are weathering the wait for the next game of the World Series. In the meantime, the Daily News regales us with more tales from Phillies fans. Oh, and hey! The Flyers won! Voter-rights advocates and election officials argued yesterday in federal court over how to keep lines moving if Pennsylvania voting machines break down on Election Day. The Inquirer takes a look at how the Obama and......

With the World Series starting tonight, it is all about the Fightin' Phils this morning. The Daily News has a whole playbook section, and even the presidential candidates are talking about our team. The Fumo trial is already getting a little nasty, with the defense essentially accusing the prosecution of racism in its jury selection. (We also enjoy the headline of that article, because we misread it as "Fumo-in-law.") After two Highway Patrol officers pulled......

It's Book Quarterly time! They got fiction, non, and some excerpts. Politics get under their skin, and may keep someone from coming home again. Meanwhile, the PA delegates to the RNC had quite a trek from bed to boardroom. As if Chester didn't have enough issues, now they got the Bloods and Crips running around. Frankly, Philly has enough to worry about without nursing homes, so we tend to agree: get out of the business.......

City Controller Alan Butkovitz will release an audit of the city's recreation centers and playgrounds in an 11:30AM press conference today. Charter schools in the city of Chester seem to be successful, but the school district is having a hard time coping with the drain they put on available resources. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia School Reform Commission will hold the first of two scheduled public hearings today on the proposed closing of two troubled city......

"A man who was being evicted from his apartment in Yeadon, Delaware County, yesterday pulled a gun and shot the constable who served the eviction notice and the apartment manager, police said. The gunman fled into Southwest Philadelphia and hid in a rowhouse at 1846 Conestoga St, but a host of cops tracked him down and arrested him as he attempted to get away out the back door." The wounded men were listed in critical......

Remember those makeshift stables in Strawberry Mansion that animal cruelty investigators raided yesterday? Well, the owners of about 40 of the horses living there removed their animals yesterday, as ordered. About 20 more horses were allowed to stay in three garages on Fletcher Street near 27th that had been made into stables while owners of those properties made repairs. The other structures will be bulldozed today. Yesterday, City Council gave final approval to a lease......

Governor Rendell said that he would back the indicted Senator Fumo's reelection bid if Fumo just asked him. Ed says: "We would be lost in Harrisburg without him because of his skill. He has done great things, and we are lucky to have him." The Inquirer is getting excited about the Philadelphia Flower Show, which will have a preview opening for selected guests tomorrow, and then open to the general public on Sunday. Catherine......

"A Philadelphia parents' group sharply criticized the city school district and the USDA yesterday for not acting earlier to recall possibly tainted beef served to children in school cafeterias." The latest poll in Pennsylvania shows Hillary Clinton's lead against Obama shrinking, and also suggests that regardless of which candidate wins the Democratic primary, he or she will have a close, tough fight against John McCain. Meanwhile, the Montgomery County Democratic Committee is meeting tonight to......

Philadelphia has one of the highest rates of police shootings in the country. The Daily News takes a look at what's being done about it, and is pretty underwhelmed. Apparently "many of the officers involved in these shootings are back to their regular street beats, even though most incidents are still being investigated without a determination that the officers were justified in firing their weapons." Due to the fact that local schools had received recalled......

The Inquirer takes a hard look at the soccer stadium that's being proposed for Chester and whether it will really help the city as much as some people say. "The fate of the city's public golf courses is in the hands of City Council today in a hearing to examine a proposed contract to run them and, hopefully, improve them." Well, it's good to know City Council is taking care of the really important things.........

Yesterday Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey unveiled his plan for getting Philly out of its "crime emergency." The plan includes deploying 200 more officers to dangerous parts of the city, and it will hopefully help Ramsey fulfill his pledge to reduce homicide in Philadelphia by 25 percent. Of the plan, Ramsey said: "There is nothing fancy about it. It's fundamental, it's basic. This is not Batman and Robin coming out of a cave somewhere." That's......

PATCO and SEPTA are thinking about working together to extend PATCO's service along Columbus Boulevard and perhaps to City Hall. The project would involve "reopening the long-closed Franklin Square station beneath Sixth and Race Streets to serve as the hub of the expanded service." This new service, however, would cost at least $1 billion, would thus require financial help, and would take eight to ten years to complete. Another wrinkle in the federal investigation into......

"Gov. Rendell has signed a death warrant for a New Jersey man convicted of fatally stabbing two sisters and a toddler in King of Prussia in 2005." The man is scheduled to die by lethal injection on March 6th. Keep in mind, however, that Rendell has signed 76 death warrants since taking office in 2003, and not one has been carried out. "Two reputed mob associates pleaded guilty yesterday to running a gambling ring......
