Looking to quench your indie rock thirst? Tonight at TLA you can have a double-shot of Midlake and dawn Landes.

Sometimes it's nice not to have any expectations. That way a kiss on the cheek or a punch in the gut takes you by surprise and you experience it more fully. We're happy to report that on Saturday night at Johnny Brenda's, two bands left us totally winded.

Not only is that the title of the latest album from Philly's own The Capitol Years, but it's also what we feel the need to do this weekend after reading that a guy tried to fly from LA to Philadelphia with a magnet and some wires up his ass. Magnets are the new butt plugs.

Nonprofit organization Campus Philly, in association with the city, IKEA, and plenty of other companies and organizations, is holding a huge free concert and festival Saturday afternoon to welcome and celebrate new and returning college students. It's called Campus Philly Kick-Off, and it will lead to un-fun things like road closings (the 2000 block of Winter Street will be closed during setup, and both directions of the inner drives of the Parkway, from 20th Street to the Eakins Oval, will be closed throughout), but it will also include fun things like a TNT Red Bull Freestyle Motocross event; a concert featuring folks like Fat Joe and Saves the Day, as well as local acts like The Capitol Years; an Involvement Fair where you can pick out a good nonprofit, community-based organization to join; free admission to plenty of museums for college students; a live skate jam; and an after party at Shampoo. There will also be a booth set up on the Parkway where you can register to vote, and a free bus loop out to IKEA, so you can do your civic duty and pick up an extra lamp.

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

If Wolfmother is the triumphant, vibrant rebirth of '70s heavy metal (and they certainly are, may the Gods of metal bless 'em; by all means pick up their new self-titled full-length, which is fantastic), then The Clientele are the triumphant, vibrant rebirth of '60s Brit-pop, served with a large side of thoughtful sadness to make it bittersweet. And happily, they're invading Philly tonight (the First Unitarian Church, to be exact) along with Great Lakes and Shai Halperin from the Capitol Years (check the R5 Productions site for song samples and more details on the show).

Fun around town, for $10 or less:
