The Sixers are still motoring along, posting a win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night (101-89), and fueling… playoff fever? We’ve felt this before, haven’t we Philly? Breathe through it. It’s not worth the morning after remorse. They’re not home again until March 7; hopefully they’ll keep up the winning away against Golden State (tonight 10:30PM), Phoenix (tomorrow 9PM), and the LA Clippers (Monday at 10:30PM); you can catch all on SportsNet.

In hoops, the Sixers try to break their five-game losing streak with a win tonight against the Chicago Bulls at the Wachovia Center, 7PM. Broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet, or buy tickets.

Rachael Yamagata, singer/songwriter, is headed to the Johnny Brenda's tonight. If you can't make it tonight, you can see her on Tuesday, July 24th or Tuesday, July 31st. Yep, that's right - she is playing three times in Philly, a short residency of sorts. Yamagata is known for her dark, raspy alto voice and being highlighted on numerous TV shows and movies. Recently, she contributed a song to Mandy Moore's new CD, Wild Hope. On...

Join us tonight for a little music at North Star Bar. Tonight on the menu is Kate Voegele and The Click Five. MySpace was singlehandedly the reason for this singer/songwriter's recent claim to fame. She's even signed by MySpace Records. Her music ventures into the normal pop/rock scene which heavily relies on Kate's big voice to carry the tunes. She recently just won the USA Songwriter's Competition with her song, "Only Fooling Myself." Headlining tonight's...

Last week we introduced you to Alan Andrews, guitarist and lead singer of Photo Atlas. We learned that the Mac-loving, riot-inducing psychic is from Denver and loves The Beatles. One lucky reader will be attending tonight's show at the Fillmore for free.

Tonight, Rooney is opening for Fergie's Verizon Wireless VIP Tour at the Electric Factory. Unfortunately you can't buy tickets to this show, but you can actually WIN tickets at various places around town. We've never heard of an artist doing an all-promotional concert. Interesting. Fergie must be getting paid pretty good from Verizon to promote the hell out of their products. We found out through a Fergie's MySpace bulletin that you can get tickets....

Think back to May 20, 1997. I was finishing up my sophomore year in high school. I had a crush on a girl named Lauren who kissed me like she was licking an ice cream cone. (Yes, I broke up with her specifically for that reason.) I remember buying my first CD: Abra Moore's Strangest Places. This hot new singer/songwriter was hitting the top of all the charts with her up-beat pop/folk song, "Four Leaf...

We know, it's snowing (or something like it) and yes it's still April, but we have a great band for you to go see tonight. Some of you won't want to venture out tonight, but we definitely think it will be worth it. Screw the snow/slush/rain and come out tonight to see the Headlights perform in the middle of two other bands, Page France and The Trolleyvox. All three bands are a mix of infallible...

to the train tracks, and why on earth it was marked with a state historic marker. After weeks of trying in vain to read parts of the marker as the train whizzed past, we turned to our trusty companion, the internet, to see what we could find.

When we headed into the city from the depths of the wild Philadelphia suburbs, we were practically giddy with anticipation at being offered the chance to see Yo La Tengo, one of our favorite bands, live at the Trocadero.

Two music festivals are hitting the Philadelphia area this weekend, and they couldn't be more different. The first is R5 Productions' This Is Hardcore 2006 fest. It starts Friday night at 5:30PM "*SHARP*," goes from noon until who knows when on Saturday and Sunday, and it's at the Starlight Ballroom all three days. We must not be hardcore enough, because we recognize pretty much none of the artists on the bill (which you can find here - along with links to buy tickets - if you scroll down a bit). We like the name Fearless Vampire Killers, though, despite the fact (or perhaps because of the fact?) that there's a really bad Roman Polanski vampire sex comedy with the same title. And anyway, isn't that what fests are for: discovering bands you've never heard of before?

The Fiery Furnaces make their first Philadelphia appearance in a while with a show tonight at the First Unitarian Church (first scheduled as a Sanctuary show, but now it all goes down in the basement). The band hit it big when Pitchfork guided its lemmings to the excellent Gallowsbird's Bark and Blueberry Boat, and then they gained more steam with a good EP titled EP earlier this year.

Will Smith probably earns the title of "Most Popular Philadelphian Recording Artist." But when it comes to the title of "Most Popular Philadelphia Recording Artist We're Proud To Admit Is Our Own," well, The Roots own that title. Tonight, The Roots bring their amazing live show to the beautiful Kimmel Center, in a night that promises to be a great fish out of water experience. You know, sort of like Splash but with a concert and without Tom Hanks.

Yesterday, Phillyist gave you a taste of the Philadelphia Live Arts and Philly Fringe Festivals. There's lots more to say about the Live Arts and Fringe, as they offer some of the most exciting arts events that you’ll see in Philly all year. The festivals are chock full of outrageous and insightful performances and happenings – even if you generally eschew live theatre, dance, and music, we guarantee you’ll find something you’ll love.

We’ll be back in Philadelphia tomorrow (after an extended stay with the folks in Texas), and we’ve certainly picked a good theatre weekend to return for!

We’re still Deep in the Heart of Texas, as it were, but our love for performing arts in Philadelphia knows no bounds. Keep reading for exciting upcoming events!
