When I told you about ?uestlove's event at Bubble House this Sunday, it totally slipped my mind that things at Bubble House would be popping off just blocks from where various schools at Penn were celebrating their graduations.
In the immortal words of Juvenile, if you've got features you're proud of, you damn well may have gotten them from your mama. And on this day of motherly love, what better way to celebrate those maternal influences than bringing them over to Bubble House for their weekly Sundae party, and shaking what your mom gave you while ?uestlove spins? If this Phillyist didn't already have a Mother's Day dinner reservation at Abbraccio's, she'd be in the process of convincing her family this was the best way to honor Mom. That said, since the event runs from 5-10, there should definitely be time for anyone to head over post maternal celebration.
So says Post Midnight, host of Late Night Series: Philadelphia, as he speeds down the Jersey turnpike on his way to University City. Every Thursday Night he makes the 30 minute trek (“at least the way I drive”) to the Creese Center on Drexel’s campus. There he MCs between an eclectic mix of musicians, poets and comedians. It is not an enviable task. While many open mics tend to have their own niche, the wide open love bubble that is LNS draws performances of all energies. There is a lot to juggle.

Texas is thawing, the Northeast is freezing, and a sort of natural order seems almost restored to the Ist-A-Verse. Almost.

The Sea: The Sea is a "rock opera" about a young man going to sea, and his subsequent life as a sailor. Like the rock operas that have preceeded it (e.g. Tommy & The Wall) The Sea is composed of individual songs telling individual stories, which work together to tell a larger tale, as opposed to the traditional opera form where the narrative is presented through sung dialog. In this case, the songs are presented as chapters to the story, each when named by the description of what is to happen therein.
It takes more than a little rain to keep this Phillyist away from the theater. A lot of rain, however, will keep me in doors, watching DVDs and drinking tea. (Curse you, Ernesto!) After reading Jill's run down I'm more than a little disappointed in myself for hiding away (especially for missing the sold-out Cell). Luckily, the heavens cleared long enough today for me to make it out to the fully interacitve, audience-controlled show, Flip the Script. (And good thing too - because I have a friend involved in the production - so I was extra anxious to see it.)
