Most of the national hype about this weekend’s Conference Championship Games has been about the Steelers and the Ravens, and understandably so. There’s nothing like two division rivals meeting in the playoffs with a championship bid on the line. Think Yankees-Red Sox ALCS games or Flyers-Penguins Eastern Conference Finals. It’s simply the highest of high drama punctuated by vitriol and hatred built up over an entire regular season or, in some cases, whole generations.

There was nothing else. A blanket of slate clouds shrouded the sun and blue sky. The misty fog which enveloped Lincoln Financial Field veiled most of the already irrelevant outside world. For those fans like myself sitting in the lower levels, not even the parking lot or other newly constructed sporting venues were visible. There was just this. No worrying about grocery shopping; no fantasizing of love interests; no wallowing in thoughts of returning to work the following morning. None of that mattered to those who had convened upon the stone sanctuary at 3501 South Broad Street. It would be sacrilegious for disciples of the Eagles to divert even an ounce of energy away from the game.

Don't Panic. It's the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy phrase that geeks everywhere love, but it's also the phrase we were muttering to ourselves during last night's 38-31 preseason Eagles loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
