Full cast of BalletX in the final scene of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's STILL@LIFE. In the spirit of doing the ending first: go see this. We love watching dance, but we also really like thinking about it. That’s why when we heard there would be a panel......

BalletX, one of our favorite dance companies in the city, is in the middle of a five-night run at the Wilma Theater—this time, featuring three female choreographers. If you have the time this weekend, we definitely recommend the show. See this video for why. I used to be a dancer. I even used to choreograph a little. And oh! how I loved to create pieces to confound the audience: straightforward stories told so abstractly that it would take an advanced degree in philosophy to understand what the dancers were doing on the stage. The audience could like it fine, love it even—they just wouldn't really know what was going on. My penchant for abstraction in my own choreography......

We love, love, love, love BalletX. Sure, we have our favorites amongst their works (at least the ones that we've seen), but even at our least impressed, we still manage to be pretty much blown away by the company's work. It's modern, it's sexy, and above all, it's technically impeccable. This isn't your traditional, Nutcracker/Swan Lake/Giselle ballet: the dancers are on point, sure, but oftentimes, that's where the similarities end. Even if you're not typically......

For the Love of Pig Iron, Pig Iron Theatre Company's fundraiser, only happens once per year, so we're not going to trouble you with a full review that might make your mouth water and your jealousy rise. If you weren't there, try to make it next year. That's all. Highlights you may have missed from this year's benefit, "The Swining": An opening dance-comedy piece choreographed to iconic "scary movie" music (like the scores to Jaws......

Last year's For the Love of Pig Iron benefit show, "PIG FEAT!" was one of the best performances we saw all year. This one-night-only variety show featured drag acts, dancing, music, and the most spirited, competitive, live auction we've ever seen. We knew we'd be back in 2008. And now, after over a year's wait, For the Love of Pig Iron returns to raise more money for the folks at Pig Iron Theatre Company. This......

Performances: BalletX (Ballet X) (No future performances); Lunchlady Doris (Lunchlady Doris) (Future performances); The UHaul Trilogy (Juan Souki) (Future performances); The Convent (Jo Strømgren Kompani) (No future performances). My friend Katie tells me that I have two energy levels: either I'm doing nothing, vegging on the sofa, watching TV, or I'm crazy busy, doing two dozen things at once. Usually, I'm the latter. Which is why I only had one performance on my calendar for......
