It seems these days that everyone wants a piece of the $700 billion bailout bill, and now you, Philadelphia bicyclist, can have your piece of the monetary pie. Hidden within the bailout bill was a provision for anyone who bikes to work "regularly" to receive a $20 a month tax break from their employers, courtesy of the federal government.

  • No one's happy about Michael's closing of 11 city libraries as part of the budget cuts. And so now the question is, is there a way to save the libraries?
  • This week in futile displays of power: Michael released the names of fifty business-tax delinquents, who owe a combined $27 million to the city. Among the names on the list are one guy who's currently in jail (T. Milton Street, Sr.) and another (Neil Stein) who was jailed for—wait for it—tax evasion.   • NFL star Marvin Harrison was never charged in a North Philadelphia shooting this spring, even though various pieces of evidence seemed to point in his direction. Now the victim is suing Harrison over the incident.
  • A second-grade student at Harrington Avery D School in West Philly brought a bag of marijuana to school yesterday and showed it off to his friends. A classmate notified the teacher, who notified police, and the cops then searched the home of the child's father, where they found more marijuana and crack cocaine. He was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and narcotics offenses.
