Fun around town, for $10 or less:
We're big fans of student artwork as a brilliant way to get started as an art collector, and a good place to start is next Friday, Nov. 21st at the annual UPenn MFA Art Auction to benefit the 2009 MFA thesis exhibition.
Sooner or later you reach the point where the posters on your wall outlive their decorating value and original art is what should be hanging on your walls anyway; anything else is "wall decor" not art!
As you might know, Counting Crows (MySpace) will be hitting the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on August 9, along with Maroon 5 and Sara Bareilles. (Get tickets here.) We'll be doing coverage of the show when it comes around, but we thought we'd give you a little something to whet your appetite.
We can't help but be aware that Philadelphia is a city that really pays attention to its always growing crop of art students, and there always seems to be terrific exhibitions where the focus is on student work, such as the one that we mentioned last week currently taking place in Northern Liberties' Projects Gallery.
If you can get there early enough before all the savvy and experienced art collectors pick up the best works of art, from May 10 through June 1, 2008, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts will host its 107th Annual Student Exhibition (ASE) in the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building.
