Teachers and employees in the Quakertown Community School District agreed to $700,000 in contract concessions in order to protect the community's schools, sports programs and to keep a school open. The school district was under pressure from a budget pinch due to the economic condidtions.
The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals voted last month to allow cruelty investigators to carry guns. The vote comes after various officers have been involved in spats with armed animal abusers. Before the agents can carry a weapon, though, they must first undergo training and certification.
