Craigslist Roundup on August 19, 2008

Looking back on a week's worth of local Craigslist hijinks... Nothing's really funny about this except the title. Because, really, who doesn't want to beat up someone in a suit? Something sounds... fishy. Or maybe we're just paranoid from watching too much SVU and Forensic Files. Yes, it is too bad... you could've taken pictures and posted them. This has chick flick written all over it. This one, too. This, on the other hand, has... [continue]

We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs. Not For Tourists (Philly edition) checked out The Toy Shop in Northern Liberties. Old school fun—yay! SEPTA Watch took a lovely bike trip using... SEPTA? Yep. And speaking of bikes, The Illadelph reports that the PPA is installing bike racks at some of its garages and lots. No word yet on whether they'll be ticketing bikes left more than two hours. Brendan Calling turned a critical... [continue]

We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs this week. Philebrity pondered the meta nature of blogs and social networking while enjoying publicist Paige Wolf's performance of her song Online Social Network. Ooh, does this mean we're even more meta? Is that possible? Brooke Hogan sets women back 100 years. So says NightlifeGay, and we're inclined to agree... except who really listens to Brooke Hogan anyway? It's all about the Olympics at A List... [continue]

Hey girl, hey! Make way for Mr. Gay. This Friday marks the second annual Mr. Gay Philadelphia contest, brought to you by the illustrious Bruce Yelk of Nightlifegay.com. This year's contest (don't call it a pageant) is hosted in conjunction with Buckmonkey.net and promises to be a spectacular evening of entertainment and heated competition as Philly's hottest men strut their stuff and show some brotherly love for appreciative audience members. Hosts for this year's event... [continue]

Looking back on a week's worth of local Craigslist hijinks... with lots of exclamation points. Llamas! Sheep! Goats! Bunnies! Holy shit, we can start a petting zoo! Gang bang auditions! But why wait? This one wants it now, now, now (not in an hour and a half)—so by the time you read this, it'll be too late. An ode to petite hipster chicks. Don't ever change (tattoos are kind of hard to remove, anyway). Busted!... [continue]

We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs this week. 5151 reports that L&I, the bane of many a business owner's existence, shut down Tritone. Where, oh where will we get fried pickles now? Wookified mourned the passing of the Ebert & Roeper show. Thumbs up for the long and successful run, guys. Broken Umbrellas has some new shots up. Check 'em out and send your own photos of umbrellas in the wild. Comic... [continue]

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you. Need to get something off your chest? Say it with help from the Bureau of Communications. Like Mad Libs, but more useful. We love the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar. Does that make us dorky? And perhaps more importantly, do we even care? Remember those old school comic book ads? Pet raccoons, stick on facial hair and hovercraft... those were the... [continue]

The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you. Create your own comic strip, with no artistic ability required. Sense of humor, however, is not optional. Geekadelphia left us salivating over what just might be the coolest table ever. And ShinyShiny found the lamps to go with it. How walkable is your neighborhood? Find out using Walk Score. This Phillyist's lair scored a 94/100. Sweet. But it... [continue]

The Philadelphia Turkey lauded the Parkway-crossing antics of a local resident. Brave, or crazy? You decide. Philebrity wondered whether PostGreen was really meant for the Second Life real estate market. So that begs the question: does the sub-prime mortgage crisis exist in cyberlife? Katie at Based on Real Life checked out First Person Arts at L'Etage. Based on her writing, we expect to see her on stage at one of these soon. Jen, of Down... [continue]

Looking back on a week's worth of local craigslist hijinks. We're not sure what's more alarming: the pet rock running away or the five bottles of whiskey. Actually, we suspect the events listed may be out of sequence. This isn't usually what they have in mind when they say friends with benefits. But hey, if this works, we're looking for a friend with a beach house. Time to grab the scissors and clip coupons, kiddies.... [continue]

We bring you the buzz from the 215 blogs this week. Support Your Local Gunfighter missed out on a Greek sex competition and made a mental note to plan better for next year's vacation. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is mandatory viewing, according to Literal Barrage. A musical web show featuring Neil Patrick Harris as a supervillain? And it's by Joss Whedon? How can we say no? Suburban Guerilla gave a thumbs-up to Code Pink and... [continue]

This week, we bring you the buzz from ONE 215 blog... namely, Philadelphia Will Do. We've featured PWD in Blogged Around Philly on numerous occasions because, hey, we often like what editor Daniel McQuade has to say. But this time he basically said this Phillyist is a whiny elitist. That's right: the unattributed chicken wing quote was courtesy of yours truly. The chicken wings in question were served at a Yelp Elite event at the... [continue]

We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs this week. Philebrity wondered about the govenrnment's plan to put speed bump decals around town. Fake speed bumps? People don't even slow down for the real ones. Next thing you know, they'll be putting paintings of cops in high-crime areas. A List Of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago has a summer cocktail series going on. Summer and cocktails: two things we love. Cheers! Philly Burbs was... [continue]

A week's worth of local Craigslist hijinks... If you're going to use big words, at least use them correctly. And if your headline includes the word copulate, that's a good indication your posting should be somewhere other than the strictly platonic section. Are you pretentious and elitist enough to hang with this person? Also, do people actually still use the word yuppie? It's a sign! Or somebody accidentally dropped a Leonard Cohen tape. We think... We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs this week. Rubber Hose celebrated rats with wings. We think they're sort of pretty, especially the ones that look like an oil spill on asphalt. Missing kittens and gay marriage. Do the two have anything in common? Not really, but this blog entry from Crushing Krisis resonated with this Phillyist nonetheless. Unsatisfied with an email from Arlen Specter, Brendan Calling called the Senator's office demanding answers.... [continue]

We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs. The Highstrung Loner was amused by SEPTA's new signage. (Warning: parts of this website are NSFW.) Philly Chit Chat was sad to find out that the TLA near the art museum is closing. We say look on the bright side: the inventory sale is a good opportunity to augment your DVD collection. Phawker pointed out the virtual media blackout on the Articles of Impeachment read against... [continue]

Looking back on a week's worth of local craigslist hijinks... We're not sure why this was in the "strictly platonic" section, but if the weather last weekend wasn't enough to make you a hot, sticky mess, this guy will. You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style. Or a botanist. We can only imagine the response if this was posted in the pets section. But is she housebroken? It puts the... [continue]

We bring you the buzz in the 215 blogs this week. Philebrity found fault with local columnist/DJ/man-about-town A.D. Amorosi's grammar and punctuation skills. For the record, this Phillyist is horrified, too. No more privately-owned cars on our potholed streets? Philadelphia Will Do isn't so sure about that. We're as flummoxed as Phillybits about the whole feminist terrorist thing. And who knew raising kids was a form of jihad? That sort of takes the whole concept... [continue]

Given the crime rate in Philadelphia, it's not surprising that there are plenty of children in our fair city with a parent (or two) behind bars. Since children often model their behavior after what they see their elders doing, we could be in for a heap of trouble. According to New York Amsterdam News, children of incarcerated parents are six to 10 times more likely to end up in prison than the average young person.... [continue]
