G. W. Bridge's Profile

The saga of CBS 3 anchorwoman Alycia Lane has gotten even stranger. The Daily News reports that her first call upon release from NYPD custody was to Governor Edward Rendell. A spokesman for the governor,Chuck Ardo, said to the paper that she did it to "make sure he knew her side of the story because he is an opinion-maker and runs around in influential circles." And "I think she knew better than to ask... [continue]

E-Ticket to the Auto Show on December 17, 2007

The annual Philadelphia International Auto Show may not be until February, but right now you can order e-tickets for it and save $2 per ticket in the process. So if you need a last second gift item for the gear head in your life, this may fit the bill, since you can print them out at home. In case you didn't know they don't actually sell cars at the show, despite being sponsored by the... [continue]

The saga of CBS 3’s Alycia Lane continues. She has been divorced twice, appeared on Dr. Phil, was romantically linked to WCBS anchor Chris Wragge, and of course infamously sent bikini photos to a married man. All of this seemed to make her one of the darlings of the New York Post’s Page Six column of late. So it is not a shock that she got into some trouble in New York, more specifically in... [continue]

We have a soft spot for things that are brilliantly stupid. These two sets of signs on the same block we recently stumbled upon in Chestnut Hill definitely qualify. As you can plainly see, there is an obvious conflict of parking instructions here. The No Parking signs appear to be recently installed, while the Two Hour Parking signs appear to have been there for decades. So we think that the sign installers probably should... [continue]

Daniel Faulkner's Widow Speaks on December 7, 2007

Yesterday morning, we caught the Today Show interview with Maureen Faulkner, the widow of slain Philadelphia Police officer Daniel Faulkner. She was being interviewed along with Philadelphia conservative radio talk show host Michael Smerconish about Murdered By Mumia, the book they wrote together chronicling her struggle after the death of her husband. Most people probably have never heard of Officer Faulkner, but most likely they have heard of the man convicted of his 1981...... [continue]

WHYY-TV first got on air as the second educational television station in Pennsylvania (WQED in Pittsburgh was the first two years before) in September of 1957, broadcasting locally produced educational programs from the old WCAU studios. However, they weren’t on channel 12. The station started off on channel 35, which meant they didn’t have a lot of viewers, since they were a UHF station and most televisions of the era had no UHF tuners.... [continue]

You may have caught Walt Hunter’s report about sleeping Wackenhut security guards at the Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant in York County on CBS 3 (KYW) on Tuesday. Well that report was based on a three month investigation by Scott Weinberger from CBS 2 (WCBS) in New York, which is the sister station for CBS 3 in New York. The thing is that Hunter’s piece, which used video and interviews conducted by Weinberger, didn’t mention... [continue]

We are dumbfounded as to why the New York Post’s Page Six gossip column has been following the saga of the love life of KYW’s Alycia Lane, but it has provided some odd entertainment since the spring. In case you don’t know, the tabloid broke the story of Lane sending e-mails containing bikini photos of herself to NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen which were intercepted by his wife, ABC Sports reporter Suzy Shuster. Yesterday, Page... [continue]

It looks like John Bolaris, most famous for predicting a massive blizzard in 2001 that never happened, may be back in the forecast for WCAU. The recent announcement that WCAU meteorologist Doug Kammerer will be moving to KYW in February means that CBS 3 will be up one forecaster and NBC 10 will be down one. KYW was one of the stations that Bolaris was rumored to have talked to. Given the reports that his... [continue]

There must be something in the Cheez Whiz, since Rick Oliveri, the owner of Rick’s Philly Steaks in Reading Terminal Market, is again in some hot water. The last time that Rick, a member of the original Pat’s Steak’s family, was in the news, was last October, when he was getting sued by relative Frank Oliveri Jr. over references to Pat’s Steaks in the promotional materials for his Citizens Bank Park location. Well, this... [continue]

Fox 29 anchor and reporter Tom Burlington has been suspended from his duties at the station according to Philadelphia Daily News columnist Dan Gross. The incident appears to have happened during a story meeting about NAACP Philadelphia Youth Council holding a mock funeral last Saturday for the N-word at Dobbins High School, which "offended staffers of all races." The suspension began last Friday, although no reason for the suspension was given. We should also note... [continue]

If you try to search Google for Tacconelli's Pizzeria you may, depending on your choice of keywords, find either the original store in Philadelphia or the splinter faction in New Jersey. Perhaps taking a cue from the myriad of splinter cheese steak factions found in Philadelphia, there are two Taconelli’s. Don’t get fooled and schlep out to Burlington County, but instead go to the original in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. The original... [continue]

Back in the mid-1970s, while visiting KYW-TV, actor Ted Knight - fully in-character as The Mary Tyler Moore Show's bumbling anchorman Ted Baxter - delivered a brief "news" update for channel 3. We find it a bit odd that a character from a CBS show would show up on the newscast of a local NBC affiliate (as KYW was at the time), but we suspect that it may have been a bit of promotion... When you go to New York or Princeton, are you tired of taking the R7 to Trenton? Do you find the schedule isn’t always convenient or the train gets so delayed you miss the New Jersey Transit train? If you don’t want to risk life and limb on a Chinatown bus, there is another option that is much cheaper and runs more frequently, but the downside is that you have to go to Camden.... [continue]

NYPD vs. NYPD Pizza on June 8, 2007

Is N.Y.P.D. Pizza on South 11th Street across from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital going to be the next pizzeria to face the wrath of the New York City Police Department? Perhaps, given the fact that a similarly named chain of pizzerias based in Orlando has incurred the wrath of New York’s Finest and is getting sued for having a logo that is a doppelganger for the NYPD logo and selling faux-NYPD gear - all... After missing one too many trains as a result of crowded escalators en route to the platform, we have decided to offer up, as a public service, a basic escalator riding tutorial that will be an education to some and a refresher to others. Plus, we want you to get out of the way when we are trying to catch the train! There are twelve steps to riding an escalator and none of them involve... [continue]
