This time of year always makes the staff at Phillyist want to shop. With fall around the corner we think of back-to-school supplies like freshly sharpened #2 pencils, brand new notebooks, and a cute messenger bag to put it all in. Since most of us aren't going back to school and are busy with full-time jobs, here are some ways to quiet the shopping buzz in all of us.
From rockabilly vintage to gourmet cheese
You can do all of your shopping, even groceries, within a few blocks in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood. Instead of one shopping street like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or New York City's Madison Avenue, we've got whole neighborhoods full of good stuff.. True, we're not as high-end as the famous shops of Beverly Hills or New York, but damn do we have our character.
Vagabond on 3rd and Arch has some really unique pieces. Check out their blog for daily finds and style tips. Um, yes please. And yes please.
Think of Old City's Sazz Vintage as your go-to vintage shop in the city. There, you can find something that screams rockabilly for our party on September 30 at National Mechanics (Hint, hint). In addition to their Old City location, there's a 6,000 square foot wholesale warehouse just 10 minutes outside the city stocked with thousands of vintage finds. In fact, their warehouse is open this Friday through Sunday.
The Papery in Old City is offering 20 percent off all sales for the whole month of September. These professional printers can make everything you need—from wedding invites to personal stationary. Their knowledgeable staff even helps with all of your etiquette questions and wording for those sometimes complicated invitations.
This Phillyist was stumped last weekend when it came to buying a hostess gift for a weekend away. After a quick stop in Hana & Posy I felt much, much better. Right across the street from Vagabond near 3rd and Arch, Hana & Posy is primarily a florist with cute boutique items and unique cards. This Phillyist found a cute bouquet of fresh flowers for under $20. Problem solved! Their blog is also written by the owner's dog, Solo, so what's not to love about this store?
Getting hungry?
No shopping trip is complete without a snack break. Thankfully, Old City steps up to the plate (No pun intended). If you're getting hungry stop by Cafe Ole for a salad, hummus plate, or mug of coffee. If you'd like to bring some food home to enjoy, check out the Old City Cheese Shop. You'll find all kinds of gourmet cheeses, pairings, and even information on cooking classes. And before this beautiful fall weather turns into winter, pay a visit to The Franklin Fountain for some good 'ol fashioned ice cream.
Much luck and happy shopping!
