This Memorial Day weekend, two dance companies, one from Philly and one from DC, come together to perform as part of the Philadelphia/Washington DC Dance Exchange at the Painted Bride. Anne-Marie Mulgrew & Dancers Co, from Philadelphia, will premiere Burn, performed to music by Bach and Philip Glass. Mulgrew and Dancers will also present a new version of The Big Dance, which was first performed by the company five years ago. The Big Dance features the entire company, flowing red fabric and video, and examines the big events in life.
The company from DC, Human Landscape Dance, will premiere January Night, a reflection on last winter's crazy snowstorms. The three dancers, housebound thanks to the blizzard, roll across the floor and each other, use each other's bodies as props and create an abstract depiction of how every one on the east coast felt as we watched the snow blanket the world around us. Check out a video clip below. Human Landscape will also present Closet Dances, a dance of vignettes that deals with human interaction in a confined area. How can you avoid contact within an enclosed space?
