Friend of Phillyist, multi-blogging sensation, geekster extraordinaire, Mr. Eric Smith is writing a book. No, no, not that novel you've heard rumblings of. This is a different book. About whiskey!

Starting April 1st, Eric and his most excellent adventure partner Glen Tickle are embarking on a 2 week research tour to, shall we say, test the fire waters. Now we all know no good road-trip can commence without a proper send off. So of course, there's a party. You'll find us, Eric and Glen, and a whole host of other whiskey-lovin' awesomeites at Tattoed Mom tomorrow night. We had a brief chat (no, literally, we cheated and used gchat) with Eric Smith about the master plan.

So, what made you decide to take the trip and write the book?
Glen is just big into whiskey, and I've wanted to write a travel narrative for a while. So this happened. While I'm doing the research and traveling around, I'm launching thewhiskeyroad.com which is gonna detail the trip.

Wait. His name isn't really Glen Tickle is it? That's too awesome for words. He sounds like a brand of scotch.
Haha, yes. Fun Fact: Glen worked as a clown when we were in college... his name was Mr. Tickle.

Is Glen in Philly?
No, NJ.

Close enough! Do you have a car?
I do not.

Does Glen, or are you renting?
Glen has one.

What kind? Hint: clown car is the best possible answer here.
He does drive a small Kia.
(Note: Since we chatted with Eric, Glen's car broke down, forcing the dynamic duo to cruise the rental section. We hear they have a pretty interesting list of desirables that you'll soon be able to read about at The Whiskey Road.)

What's the route?
Probably going to NYC first, then three stops across western Pennsylvania. Then a loooong drive to Virginia, then to Kentucky and Tennessee.

There's whiskey in New York City?
A museum.

Do you have a plan in order to NOT drive drunk? Alternating drinking seems unfair.
We're gonna drink during the day, probably. And do a lot of interviews, talking to people.

Ah, so you're going to interview people while drunk, a much better plan.
My moleskine notepad will be full of unreadable writings.

We want to see scans of that in the book.
Haha. That's a fun idea.
