Long-time readers of Phillyist perhaps know how much we respect, admire, and yes, even love local photographer and man-about-town JJ Tiziou. Today gives us one more reason to celebrate his awesomeness with the announcement of How Philly Moves, a celebration of dance in whatever form, from the stage to the club to the kitchen. What once began as a project for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival has taken on a larger-than-life aspect—quite literally. In an announcement this morning at City Hall, it was revealed that:
The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program has selected How Philly Moves as part of its new gateways initiative. This extraordinary new work of community-based public art will culminate in a dynamic and iconic new 'postcard' image for Philadelphia: a nearly 50,000 square foot mural across the facade of the Philadelphia International Airport's parking garage.
Dancers of all levels can sign up to participate in the video and photo shoots that will inform the mural's content, held March 5 –7. Participation is free and completely open to Philadelphians, but you're asked to register by February 19.
More information, as well as frequent updates on the project, is available here. Congratulations to JJ and all of his cohorts for this amazing opportunity.
