But, really, here I am being a bit too negative. Aside from the trash, Weinberg Park is quite charming. Its small collection of benches all appear to be in good working order (unlike some other parks in that part of town), there are trees and greenery, and in the park's center are three cute little statues made out of concrete, two turtles and what appears to be either a whale or a dolphin. The only issue is that the turtles have somehow been decapitated and the whale/dolphin's snout is chipping off; otherwise, they're really cute. There is also a little podium explaining when the park was dedicated (1972) and who it was named for (Emanuel Weinberg, a city councilman). That little podium provided pretty much all the background information I could find on this park. Anyone out there know more about it?
Some parks, as I'm sure we've learned by now, need a bit more help than others. Fortunately, the group sustainADELPHIA will be hosting a clean up at Weinberg Park as part of its "Fall for Your Park" initiative and have previously held clean ups at the park. The park has also been cleaned up by the Lower Moyamensing Civic Association. Weinberg Park is a cute little park. People just need to stop littering there.
