- A Penn grad will share the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physics. George E. Smith, a 1955 University of Pennsylvania graduate, will receive the award for his work on the optical side of the digital revolution.
- The Delaware River Port Authority proposed trolley lines along Columbus Boulevard and Market Street. The two lines would connect the proposed casinos along the waterfront and Center City.
- Cliff Lee was named the starter for tomorrow's National League Divisional Series opener with Colorado. Andy Martino doesn't see why.
