Looking to kick off your weekend with a bang? A headbang, that is. Well, you'll have a prime opportunity to get a jump on your self-induced weekend migraine when the hardDrive Live Tour hits the Troc tomorrow night. HardDrive Live is the inaugural national tour from syndicated hard rock radio show—wait for it—hardDrive. And for its first foray into a live concert tour, hardDrive has packed in some top-notch acts.
Headliners All That Remains (MySpace) have been shredding up the metal festival circuit and opener slots for bands like Disturbed and Slipknot for years. And their 2008 album Overcome continues to pick up steam a year after its release. Now that the band has built up a solid fanbase, and has the opportunity to headline this mini-festival tour of sorts, expect them to kick the audience's ass (in a good way) on a whole new level.
Also on the bill are Italian goth-metal icons Lacuna Coil (MySpace). We first got into Lacuna Coil a few years ago, when Evanescence hit the mainstream. A friend suggested that, if we were into Evanescence (which we were at the time), we had to check out Lacuna Coil, as they'd been doing a similar thing longer and better than Evanescence. Well, we gave Lacuna Coil a listen, and found that our friend was right. Dual singers Andrea Ferro and Cristina Scabbia can straight up wail. (And in this Phillyist's opinion, it doesn't hurt that Scabbia ain't too rough on the eyes, either.) We expect Lacuna Coil's set will be heavy on material from their new album, Shallow Life, but hopefully they'll get some oldies-but-goodies in there, as their entire catalog is something to celebrate.
