Yo, Philly in the News

  • We mentioned this yesterday, but it bears repeating: President Obama is in town for a fundraiser for Arlen Specter, and his presence will surely wreak some havoc with local traffic, particularly on I-95 and I-76 (as if rush hour traffic on those roads doesn't already suck enough).
  • Your daily dose of shootings.
  • In the "HUH?!" story of the day, an upstate New York woman finished second in a ladies' no-limit hold-'em tournament at the Borgata over the weekend. This normally wouldn't be news, except that she finished second to a man.
  • A group of men on dirt bikes in North Philly caused a motorist to crash his car. For good measure, when the driver then got out of his car, the men on the dirt bikes knocked him over and took turns running over him. The driver is in critical condition.
  • Thieves broke into the Public Storage facility in Port Richmond on Sunday and ransacked 70 to 80 storage units, plus left their "calling card," some (really poor) graffiti on the side of the building. As a matter of disclosure, it should be noted that this Phillyist's unit was among those ransacked, but nothing was missing. Others were not so lucky.
  • For those of you (like us) quaking in your boots at the thought of Kevin Kolb as the Iggles' starting QB while McNabb is injured, there may be some measure of hope: The Birds have signed Jeff Garcia, who carried the team to the playoffs with McNabb injured in the 2006 season.
