Melissa's PLAF Diary for September 10

Melissa's PLAF Diary Performance: Happy Hour (Madhouse Theater Company) (Future Performances)

Happy Hour, presented by Madhouse Theater Company, was true to most office happy hours: sad, funny, and desperate. Fegie's, the dark, Irish pub where Happy Hour was performed, was the perfect setting for the hour-long show.

The characters were typed perfectly. You had the dudes, played by Robert Neddoff and Gregg Pica. One was in a typical blue button down shirt, chugging cans of PBR while the other complained about being fired from work that day—for masturbating. You had the cute girls, played by Colleen Corcoran and Megan Slater. Similar to a sixth grade dance, the girls sat across the room drinking cosmopolitans and complaining about the men they've slept with, or the lack therof. The girls were the funniest part of the show. One lamented her recent one-night stand with Michael from IT, while the other, much more conservative co-worker cried about her recent divorce and insisted she call her ex once she was drunk. For most people who attend office happy hours, it was a much too familiar scene.

Written by John Stanton and directed by Allison Heishman, the two dudes summed up happy hour best: "The only thing better than Friday happy hour is Baskin Robbins' Mississippi Mud Pie Ice Cream."
Festival rating: Good
