- Today is opening day for schools in the greater Philadelphia area. Two new schools open their doors for the first time in Northeast Philadelphia.
- Police raided the Ramada Philadelphia Northeast hotel Sunday night and arrested a man from West Philadelphia. John Lee, 49, was arrested in connection with a possible forced prostitution ring.

- Mayor Nutter was booed relentlessly when he took the stage at the kickoff to the annual Labor Day Parade. He was booed due to his proposed changes to the pension plans for new city employees and the potential for massive layoffs.
