- Forget gun control; the city needs some serious slingshot control.
- President Obama's address to schoolchildren this afternoon was very well received locally.
- In less controversial speeches to students news (and someone is going to have to explain that phenomenon to us), the Eagles' third-string quarterback spoke to students at Nueva Esperanza Academy today about the importance of standing up to peer pressure. Right, buddy, we're sure all of your problems were the result of peer pressure and not just because you're a crappy human being. Did we say that out loud?
- It wouldn't be a news roundup without some shootings, so here we go: Police in New Jersey are on the hunt for two gunmen who shot five people at a Camden apartment complex. And a 19-year-old man was shot in the face in Oxford Circle this afternoon. Oh, and for good measure, we have an afternoon shooting in Port Richmond and overnight shootings in Manayunk.
- In the "if you say so" category of newsworthiness: Philadelphia's "Humble" Bob Shoudt packed down thirteen and a half pounds of chili spaghetti in ten minutes to win a competitive eating contest in Cincinnati over the weekend, beating the likes of three-time Wing Bowl winner Joey Chestnut.
