We know it's Labor Day weekend and all, but man, there's some bad juju going around the Philadelphia area today. Our Asshole of the Week was just the tip of the iceberg.
- This morning, we brought you the story of a bad mother who abandoned her injured daughter at the scene of an accident. This afternoon, we bring you the story of a bad boyfriend who stabbed his partner's baby in the head. Don't worry: he didn't mean to stab the baby. He was going for the girlfriend.
- Firefighters were called to Haverford College this morning to extinguish the flames resulting from a car explosion. A bad enough situation made worse by the discovery of a body inside. No identity has been released yet.
- Officer Adrian Hospedale of the Philadelphia Police Department was wounded in a Southwest Philadelphia shoot-out that followed an armored car heist. Hospedale, who was recently honored for his service to the city, was in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. A gunman was also injured in the shootout.
- A man was arrested this morning for sexually assaulting two women after driving them to Fairmount Park. No further details have been revealed at this time.
- What is it about this sudden upswing in assaults on the elderly? A 97-year-old man was beaten by a robber pretending to be from the Water Department. Fortunately, the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, and the impostor and an accomplice were arrested. One more man is still being sought.
- Four men have been arrested for the murder of Northeast Philadelphia resident Lyudmila Burshteyn. Burshteyn's body was discovered in a Burlington County dumpster early Wednesday.
