- Another day, another doomsday budget scenario from Mayor Nutter. The city is undertaking a review of 12,000 city workers, and 3,000 of them will be laid off—including 1,000 police officers and 200 firefighters. Notices will go out in mid-September, with the layoffs being effective October 2.
- We feel bad for many—but not all—shooting victims. Amongst the ones we don't have any pity for are guys who manage to get themselves shot while committing a home invasion.

- One of the defendants in the Sean Patrick Conroy murder case this morning took the stand and reenacted his account of the beating—in which he, of course, did not deal a single blow to Conroy but rather stood in shock while one of his co-defendants committed the assault that left Conroy dead.
- Investigators are looking for a lowlife piece of scum who beat and robbed a 100-year-old man in broad daylight in Southwest Philadelphia yesterday.
