Armored Car

  • Chris Wright, former chief of staff for city Councilman Jack Kelly, was sentenced by a federal judge today to four years in prison. Wright was found guilty of bribery and other corruption charges back in February.
  • The NAACP has called out District Attorney Lynne Abraham for leading the grand jury that last week declined to indict a dozen police officers for police brutality in connection with the videotaped beating of three men suspected of firing shots into a crowd in Feltonville.
  • Two more Eagles were injured at training camp today. Backup QB Kevin Kolb left practice with a sprained knee, and linebacker Trent Cole went out with a sprained shoulder.
  • A gunman attempted to rob a Brinks armored car in South Philadelphia this morning. The would-be thief got ahold of a small amount of money, but dropped it when the Brinks guard opened fire on him as he fled. It is unknown whether he was injured.
  • It was announced today that test scores at Philadelphia's public schools were up this year, making it the seventh year in a row that scores improved. Still, less than half of the city's schools are making "adequate yearly progress" and meeting their goals under No Child Left Behind.
  • A large contingent of troops from the Pennsylvania National Guard will be returning home from Iraq over the course of the next several weeks.
